The Public Works and Utilities Division
Consists of nearly 800 employees and a budget of $235 million (including 100 million in capital improvements), is responsible for the oversight and management of the following departments, including funding, regulatory and environmental issues intrinsic to them:
Departmental Directors work in close contact with and under the supervision of the Director of Public Works and meet together once weekly to share concerns and coordinate activities. This organizational structure has provided efficient delivery of services since it has been in place and results in greatly improved communications and collaboration between departments, which historically have worked toward disparate goals.
Other responsibilities of the Public Works and Utilities Division include these sections:
Capital Programs
Coordinates the facilities planning efforts between the above departments and develops their 6-year programming documents.
Environmental Programs
Responsible for promotion of environmental responsibility within the above departments and adherence to environmental regulations.
Real Estate Services
Secures right-of-way for public works programs and maintains a catalog of City-owned property, much of which is owned by Public Works and Utilities departments for right-of-way purposes.
Annexations, Animal Control, and Community Enhancement
Are all additional services provided through Public Works & Utilities
